The Porch Light AwardsIn the early 80s, with limited funding for domestic violence safe houses, a group of passionate and dedicated individuals in New Hampshire's seacoast region decided to offer their own homes as places for victims and survivors to find safety and healing. To signal that their home was a safe place, these volunteers would place green light bulbs in their porch lights. Today, this grassroots movement is honored in New Hampshire by the annual Porch Light Awards, which are given to one individual in the community every year who has gone above and beyond in their efforts to end domestic violence.
The Pikes Peak Domestic Violence Summit has adopted the Porch Light Awards for our own community. We have nominations in three categories:
- Lifetime Achievement: Awarded to individuals who have dedicated significant amounts of time and energy to eradicating domestic violence.
- Above & Beyond: Awarded to individuals who go the extra mile beyond their professional scope to support individuals dealing with domestic violence.
- Newcomer: Awarded to individuals who have just entered the field but whose dedication and enthusiasm is inspirational.
